Viper 3000 Winch for Yamaha Rhino Review
This winch is marketed as a 3000 lb. fully waterproof ATV/UTV winch. It comes with 12V DC 1.1 hp motor, 4-way roller fairlead, 2 wired remotes, 4 bolt ATV/UTV winch mount, 4 ton snatch block, an extra winch cable and all the mounting hardware needed. Both cables included are made from 50 ft. long 15/64" heavy gauge wire.

The Install: Some electrical modifications and wire splicing were needed, but the mechanical part was easy. It took about 2 hours for everything to be installed, 3 if your picky. I threw some hooks on the winch plate from the hardware store to hook tow ropes to when the winch is not necessary.

Usage: I winched myself out of the mud the first 15 minutes I was riding. Just throw the hook to another rider in a safe area and press the button and your Rhino is pulls to safety (with the motor running). So far the Viper 3000 winch has been great for pulling stuck Rhinos out of the mud. I was even able to winch my 4000 pound car up my driveway with ease. There are some safety precautions so read the owners manual.

The Deal: I think if you have a Rhino you should have a winch. It will save your ass or help you save someone else's ass. Don't get less than 3000 lbs. Get the strongest one you can afford and make sure you get a wired or wireless remote so you don't have to sit in your Rhino to control the winch. It's safer and cool too. You need this.

Update: The wired remote cable split and had exposed wires after mild use and riding in the glove compartment. The connections inside the wired remote are all bent and don't connect after connecting it a bunch of times. You now have to wiggle it to work. The wired winch remote that comes with the Gorilla winches is way stronger and better quality and has a better connection.

Update: A 3000 lb. is good for a Rhino, a 4000+ winch is better. Get the most weight pulling one you can afford.

Update: Emailed the manufacturer Moto Alliance and asked if they could send me a bolt because one was missing from the package when I bought the winch. They never responded.

Update: After almost a year of heavy use and possible misuse the winch has lost some of its power the drum has become loose. The free spool feature will not unlatch.

Note: The last thing you want is for your winch to fail when someone is hurt and time is ticking. I only recommend quality winches for UTVs. A hundred dollars more is worth the extra reliability and power.
